Interesting.
Playing Hary Janos with Szell on a 99 cent Gray 2 eye as I type. I know it's felt to be a very good record sonically, playing is great.
I think that FWM wants things less pinpoint, in fact, I know that. I still hear the Cleveland of Szell in some solos and ensemble. The Suppe Light Calvary YT is pretty tight, imo. Very nice. And I already mentioned the live Uchida Mozart pc's.
I attended over 25 Severance concerts pre reno and organ (Dec 1986-July 1989).
I live in LA, and heard Dudamel conduct Tchaik 4th with Simon Bolivar once at Walt Disney Hall. We actually sat behind the stage that time. He quadrupled sections (brass, woods) to make things more impactful. It was kind of fake sounding. His group looked shiny clean and beautiful.
Heard Dude conduct about 10 times either at Disney or Hollywood Bowl. He also rehearsed my kid's youth orchestra at Coburn. Most of the time, it's good or better, not wonderful yet. A good human being.
