time-tested satirical element in much of art, as you know. To me, it sits at the same table with emperor-has-no-clothes commentary. Specifically in terms of the Met Opera, I don't see that institution (or any other art company in NYC) as being particularly conservative at the present time, so I'm not sure why they would satire their own "side" deliberately.
