I used to have a Monarchy DAC with a 180 degree invert knob. (Mostly) German label recordings would go from unfocused/hazy (less distinct) and "snap into focus" in the correct polarity...the instruments assumed more of a pinpoint location in the soundstage and integrated better. Not all recordings, not all of the time.
The usual suspects included Teldec and DG, if I recall correctly. At that time (c.2002) I was putting small slips of paper into my CD cases that said "Zero Polarity" and "Invert 180 Degrees". I got rid of the DAC when I added a Tube DAC in its place, but lost the polarity knob/switch.
A small side note...every now and then I pull out a CD and it still has one of these notes in it, stating directly that I haven't listened to that disc in 20 years!:-) I am positive there are more remaining to be (re)discovered...
