If you don't mind, could you describe your audio system and listening room? Recently, right after getting home from a symphony concert, I played the same works on my system in a futile attempt to calibrate it to what I'd just heard, and I could not conceive of how to come close, especially in scale. The first fundamental requirement is a recording that has captured all of the sound, which would be pretty difficult for something like the Mahler 2nd.
