Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

For a quick Top Ten, fair enough. But...

the writing about each composer is just awful. The author continually tries to be clever and profound, and the result is a slew of opinions that I mostly don't agree with. Examples are too frequent for me to bother to address them here. Everything is a mix of philosophical overreach and juvenile oversimplification. I can sum it up with this quote from the article:

"To figure out what makes classical music so alluring, you first have to define what it is." -- I don't agree with that, and the writer Tim Brinkhof doesn't do a good job trying, IMO. I also don't like that the entire article is written as if the gods of the third person were responsible for the facts placed before us..."according to various sources", "Some say", "Others prefer", "a distillation of various internet lists drawn up by authoritative sources" -- it just keeps going on and on.

I'll end it there.
