The NY Times article focused on number of concert performances, but loss of popularity includes recordings as well. New and reissued recordings of symphonies by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms etc continue at a furious pace. I've hardly ever seen the Franck Symphony in Qobuz new/reissued releases. Or my interest may be sufficiently low that it doesn't catch my attention.
