you won't find any, and you won't miss them. I think this kind of gets back to my Rothko comment regarding Bruckner. Being a musician, or having formal training in music theory, etc. -- and, never mind being a politics and culture junkie -- surely can get in the way of direct sensation, beauty and excitement.
While I am AWARE of the context of much of Shostakovich, I simply don't let it get in the way of the power and aggression of the music. William Tell quotations -- I friggin' HATE that, and don't even listen to Symphony 15.
Give me Symphony 5, 8, 10, 13 anytime. And, now we are done with Shostakovich -- he doesn't need us anyway!:-)
