I was very pleased to discover that Chandos has issued four (4) recordings of his orchestral works (conducted by John Wilson with the BBC Philharmonic) in state-of-the-art sound. For me, Copland needs clarity, texture and sonic impact...this should fit the bill!:-)
Probably not the last word in Copland but, supplemented by Bernstein and Tilson-Thomas, a solid foundation. From what I can see, the critics limit their enthusiasm due to British forces performing American music in the same manner as that of American forces performing British composers...Americans too brash, British too staid, blah, blah!:-)
