Along with Horowitz, Rubinstein was THE reference for American listeners back when I got serious about classical music...the early 1980's. Now, Rubinstein is never mentioned anywhere, and the Chopin Nocturnes recent thread reminded me of him. I listened to his 1950 recording, and thought it was crisp and neat, with excellent sound for the vintage.
I cherry-picked individual recordings from the massive Rubinstein Collection a couple of decades ago (almost 40 of the recordings), and I continue to enjoy them on occasion. I don't think that they are revelatory, but Arthur Rubinstein was, indeed, a virtuoso. Sorry to say that I read his two autobiographies (My Many Years and the other), but his air of European migrant pretentiousness kinda put me off -- maybe even still, a bit.
