I must offer a serious "Thank You" for pointing out this young composer (age 43 at this writing). There are two recordings available for streaming that include a couple of symphonies and a violin concerto. From the first notes of his Symphony 1 it is clear that this composer has earnest intentions. The influences I hear immediately include Liszt, Berlioz and Vaughan Williams ("War Symphonies") -- but only in passing, and nothing sounds derivative. I would even aver to say I feel a little Gliere rumbling about.I would describe the music as being very well orchestrated, eventful, powerful, modern (but not atonal) and -- near and dear to my taste -- Jimmy Lopez Bellido has a firm grip on "going QUIET"...he knows how to pull off a climax and let the canvas go black.
I am initially very impressed, and will continue listening to post additional thoughts.
Just to add...confusingly, there is also a THIRD recording of orchestral works on Harmonia Mundi under the simpler name Jimmy Lopez. This appears to be the same composer, born in 1978.
