Du Pre was my first Elgar Concerto, and it ends up that it was more about the Elgar than Du Pre. In other words, I have recordings of EVERYTHING that is in this box that are more than equal to Du Pre, and in MUCH better sound.
Regarding the sound quality specifically, it is generally the worst kind of early EMI digital without any meaningful remastering.
The set is dirt cheap, however, and if the performer retains a sentimental place it is not likely to be bettered.
