Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

I enjoy streaming music a great deal, but...

Walking into a room filled with physical books and music discs (of various types) is a different kind of experience. I'll put it this way...when I walk into a library -- any library -- my heartrate picks up just a little. I used to get the same sensation going into Tower Records and other brick and mortar shops back in the day. So, it is the objects themselves, the "ideas contained within" and, perhaps, simply the design of the cover art, smell of the paper (books) which brand me. I am a COLLECTOR, like jdaniel, I think.

Enjoy streaming only, but do not think only in terms of comparative cost or simplicity of access if attempting to consider this -- it doesn't matter, because we are tapping into a different of type of immersion and experience!:-) Obviously, judgement and preferences are a much bigger topic that spans a universe of things.

"A Gentle Madness" (Basbanes) is a book about the love of books. Perhaps a similar book ought to be written about recordings from 78's to LP's to reel-to-reel to vinyl. That obsession, too, harms no one and is a very cool hobby for a lifetime of enjoyment.
