My listening time is reducing as I get older. Thirty years ago I would return from work and listen for 2 or 3 hours in the evening plus all day and evening at the weekend except for a couple of hours if I was watching TV. However a lot of this was semi-background as I would simultaneously read or cook etc.
Now I am old I can't multi-task. So my listening tends to be concentrated on that single object. However , as I still need to do other things that leaves less time. I had imagined that when I retired I would listen all day but that just hasn't happened. I will always catch BBC Radio 3 from at least mid-day to three o'clock on Saturday if I rise late or from 9 am ( Record Review) if I get up in time. Also to the Early Music Show on Sunday afternoon (1 hour). Other than that listening occupies only a handful of hours a week. A very limited amount as background though.
Like Andy Evans I rather like silence.
