Chris, I am not asking anyone to return to the 1950. Quite the opposite. I am querying why it is thought appropriate for orchestras ( and classical musicians in general)to don apparel that was suitable for attending an embassy reception in 1950? In 2021 it is otherwise more or less only worn at the presentation ceremony if you are the recipient of a Nobel prize or if you are a butler to the President of France :-). But why wear white tie for a concert when the greater or lesser part the audience is likely to be wearing jeans?
That Kolesnikov concert was indeed televised so you should find a video of it in due course.
