Most famously the Chicago music critic at the time ruined Rafael Kubelik's career with the CSO.... IIRC she also didn't think much of Jean Martinon either. Two conductors whose work I really appreciate. I admit to being late to an appreciation of Ormandy.... Perhaps because his and the orchestra's output was SO great I felt his work to be too commercial and therefore unworthy of my attention. The sound the orchestra produced under his baton is unmistakable and for that alone he must be recognized as a guiding force to be reckoned with....
