RE: More pronunciation fun

When I took a class in Italian, I noticed that by the rules of pronunciation, Toscanini should be broken into syllables and pronounced as
to-sca-ni-ni (with long o, as in "toe")
Previously I'd only heard Toscanini pronounced (by Americans) as tos-ca-ni-ni (with short o).

It seems that I was correct about the Italian pronunciation, according to the link below.
By the same rules, the opera Tosca should be pronounced to-sca (with long o).
