Hasn't there been some learned discussion about what exactly Beethoven's intentions were with regard to specified tempos? I seem to recall it has been a point of contention through the years.. In the case of the Eroica, there is a "funeral march" in it....no? I can't imagine that Beethoven's intention was to be closer to say a parade band! Let's not forget of course the genius that was Celi, who proposed that it takes longer for most people to actually hear the music... hence slower tempos... I agree with that, as it makes sense...
