As a database/information systems programmer for ~25 years, I believe it is not "laziness" but instead it is intentional "social media" programming.
"Social media" programming is where accuracy is compromised in the data processing engineering and design in order to improve performance.
Decades ago it was realized that response time was more important to farcebook and all the other social media apps than accuracy.
No one really cared all that much on farcebook if it your page gets the name of your pet rat wrong.
Not like banking transactions where an incorrect balance would seriously piss people off - or cost the banks a LOTof money.
So programming techniques around data capture, storage, and retrieval were modified to put performance first at the cost of accuracy. Not to mention that none of the AIs in any of the commerical sites could today pass a Turing test...
