A tale of two Kleibers.........

I know that the Beethoven 5th and 7th by Carlos Kleiber are considered by a great many people to be "reference" recordings. Maybe it's because I don't care for faster / really fast Beethoven readings, but the Jr. Kleiber performances have never done anything for me... I stumbled across a channel on YouTube that makes available MANY top flight recordings by various conductors and artists (more vintage). It's easy to search their channel by artist when I came across Kleiber Sr.'s Beethoven 5th recording with the Royal Concertgebouw and what a revelatory recording it is IMO! At what I would consider to be a more moderate pace, it's nuanced and nicely done. Stereo did not appear on the recording scene until about 5 years later... How glorious THAT might have been! Of course the senior Kleiber passed away in 1956 just a few years after this recording was made...
