Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

RE: But if those harmonics weren't there in the original performance. . .

". . . then I don't want my audio equipment adding them back unless I've consciously OK'd it."

How would you even know? I can tell you that you have listened to recordings with goosed harmonic content and didn't know it.

"And, BTW, what if the harmonics are already present in your recording and then your tube equipment adds even more audible harmonics to the sound? In your example, you cherry picked an instance which makes a virtue (restoring "missing" harmonics) out of a vice (distorting the recording by adding stuff that's not there)."

As I have said so often, I am all for accuracy in so far as it serves our subjective preferences and all for euphonics in so far as they serve our subjective preferences. My philosophy is very simple. If it sounds better it is better. Doesn't matter why or how
