Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

"one starts with two things. 1. What do you have. 2. What do you want the result to be"

I want the result to be an accurate reflection of what I remember live, real music to be - that kind of accuracy.

I believe I already explained in more detail what I meant by accuracy in my OP - the sound of a Fazioli in a particular hall, live vs. how it sounds via recording.

As for my starting point... what do *I* have? I have my collection of recordings. I have options of various masterings of those recordings on various formats. What do I want? I want the best sound as per my aesthetic values for those recordings when I play them. As an audiophile that is where I start.

Of course, the ideal mastering for me would be an accurate rendering of how a good instrument sounds in a good acoustic environment. That's my aesthetic value, but, in the real world, I realize that "adjustments" to accuracy need to be made, because of imperfections in the production - but those adjustments are not ideal and are necessary compromises IMHO.
