Home Classical Court

From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here.

I also disagree.

I don't have a high-end phonograph player (please use the correct words!) but have heard a few at some audio shows.

Here's my experience: either it is OK (but no better than digital) or it is noticeably worse, with pops, clicks and midrange congestion. I have simply never heard any 'magic'.

Perhaps on certain genres the physical requirements of mastering the recordings prevent the excessive dynamic range compression that is effortless to apply to digital, but that doesn't apply to classical.

I inherited a large number of classical LP recordings, in attempting to sell them I learned from the buyer that there is essentially zero market for almost all of them.

BTW, I am not a radical 'objectivist' either, but do believe in science---and I have found (comporting with Harman research and much that preceded) that flat power response does NOT sound the best and a downsloping house curve is desirable. And I have no problem with signal modification and tone controls, and do it myself with Anthem ARC in bass region.

And furthermore I have found that my receiver's DSP for Fletcher-Munson correction (calibrated by absolute SPL) is excellent and perceptually desirable.
