Classical Court From Perotin to Prokofiev (and beyond), performed by Caruso to Khatia, it's all here. |

With me, more often than not, it's Wagner. I can remember during my LP days, I would christen the new component with Ride of the Valkyries more often than not. I can recall at least three different recordings of that work during different periods. For instance, I recall that my first Thorens turntable had its maiden voyage at my house via the Living Stereo Stokowski / Symphony of the Air performance. Later on, I used Stokowski's Phase-4 recording (I know, but it's good, clean fun!) with a new integrated amp. And still later, I used the Sheffield Leinsdorf/LAPO recording to inaugurate my new Micro Seiki turntable. I was definitely NOT thinking about this yesterday when put my new Mark Levinson amp through its paces for the first time, but, almost by chance, I chose ANOTHER Wagner except as its first playback challenge: the famous Decca recording of the beginning of Rheingold with Solti and VPO. (This was a pre-release from HDTT - the public release should be available from their site soon.) (EDIT: I now understand that what I have is a HDTT beta version - I didn't know they had beta versions! - a final version may or may not be made available to the public. I listened to the rest of it earlier today - DSD256 - and it sounded great, but I wanted to compare it to Decca's own version on blu-ray before I wrote too much about it.)(BTW, I discovered that - Oops! - I had connected the channels backwards! I'm just about to correct that right now!) (EDIT: channels are now correct - LOL!)
