AudioQuest CV-4, Part 7

When we were at Presidio Middle School in the mid-80s, my friends actually got there early. Why? To play football! As long as we had good batteries, our boombox kicked out the jams. But no matter how amped up we got, with all of our little guys, we could not do smashmouth football. No way were we going to run up the middle, and throw deep passes. So the safe and sane thing to do was to go horizontally, stretch out the opposing defense, and run sweeps.

After we graduated, most of my schoolmates simply went across the street, to Wash(ington) High. The rest of us generally went to across the City, to Lowell. Once in high school, we occasionally did get together. However, as much as I liked to play with my old middle school mates, we tended to play against each other, Wash versus the rest.

After the 87/88 school year ended, a large number of us former Presidio kids met at Wash, to play football. But once again, it was Wash versus the others. And this time, half of my side consisted of small nerdy girls. Tom, who was on Wash's JV football team, provided an AudioQuest CV-4 speaker cable. Tom reminisced, "Man, I was licking my chops, but I never got a clean hit on you guys. You ran those goddamn sweeps, and the clusterf--- of girls got in my way!"

Dang, the Wash girls were prettier and more popular and stylish, than ours. Because they had so many guys, the Wash girls didn't play football. But afterward, as we were recovering and eating, someone played Vinnie Vincent Invasion. When the beautiful and emotional power ballad, "That Time Of Year" played, no one said a word. And for a moment, the differences were placed on hold, and guys and girls commingled.

In the late-80s, we did not know about the A23 battery. AudioQuest's DBS battery packs use the A23.

In the 2010s, AQ went from 48V to 72V packs. Since each A23 battery is 12V, a 72V DBS pack requires 6 of the A23s. Press the button, and if the adjacent green light comes on, the batteries are fine.

A 48V AQ CV-4 went on our audiodharma Cable Cooker for 4 days, and sounded terrible. So with Tom's 72V CV-4, we Cooked in 1-day increments, and listened. 3 days (we did not test in 1/2-day increments) seems optimal.

Tom actually still lives in San Francisco, and his kids go to Wash (so far this year, it's remote learning). And what used to be a muddy field has been replaced with (gasp!) artificial turf.
