In 1998, boy bands were huge. 98 Degrees teamed up with Stevie Wonder, on "True To Your Heart." It appeared on their album, 98 Degrees And Rising . But it became more famous, as the song during the ending credits of Mulan .
Also in 1998, I acquired the Classe' CP-60 preamp, which was my first product to incorporate a detachable 5-pin XLR cable. This was used between the outboard power supply and preamp proper. Back then, we paid absolutely NO attention to this link. I did not take any photos of the CP-60. And I only have this of the box of the CA-100 power amp, which was used with the CP-60.
Over two decades later, we now know that 5-pin XLR cables do sound different from each other. We do not know why these DC cables effect sonic changes, but they do. Makes us wonder how the sound of the Classe' CP-60 would have changed, with different DC cables.
Yikes, used between a Simaudio 820S power supply and 750D CD player/DAC, the Revelation Audio Labs Passage makes the sound lacking in air, life, and impact.
Although RAL do have an audiodharma Cable Cooker, we cannot be sure that they have the adapters needed to treat 5-pin XLR cables. But we do, so this Passage gets the proper treatment.
