I have these in my system now and, as far as I can tell, they have no "sound" of their own (within the limits of resolution of my system). This may be the best one can hope for from a unit like this and is not meant to be "damning by faint praise." I can recommend these for non-critical applications.
For $15 bucks on-sale, delivered, they represent the price/performance goal that works for me. The assembly quality seems quite good though I have not examined the soldering yet. The plugs are the heavy generic eBay "Gold Plated PHONO RCA PLUG Locking Connector" that cost a little under $4/each, shipped free from China. Not my preferred connector-- my first experience with locking RCAs actually. A funny thing is that the female in-line connector has a loose outer shell to match the appearance of the males... it just spins around.
