That finally registers

After reading and rereading your original statement, I finally comprehend that you were stating 18ga is the best compromise single solid wire to do the least harm to the signal. That makes more sense, but it wasn't really clear initially, at least to me, and, I guess, to T456. Not sure I agree even with that. Maybe 16ga, but that's a personal decision or application based. For a short run, 18ga might be okay, but a longer run, more than six feet or so, should maybe bump up to 16ga, understanding that it is certainly not ideal. Too small a wire will adversely affect damping factor, while too large a wire does tend to roll off highs. Despite T456's objections to skin effect being the operative factor, there is definitely a correlation between solid wire diameter and high frequency transmission.

Instead of describing such a compromise, please tell us what is your ideal speaker cable configuration. Granted, that probably will still not satisfy T456, but it would inform a lot of other inmates.
