First of all, why 10 gauge? You could probably get better results from using smaller gauge of better wire. There is very little stereo equipment that draws enough current to justify 10 ga and yours certainly doesn't. Usually 12 ga is plenty, and it would open up a lot of other possibilities for quality of conductor and type of insulation.

Avoid solid core and go with stranded. It is cheaper, safer, and easier to use.

The Lowes stuff is probably the crappiest copper available. You don't need OCC copper, but decent quality should suffice. Flexibility has as much to do with the insulation (probably lousy PVC) as with other characteristics. Why would you care if it's flexible to -1000? Get that cold in your room? Look for teflon or similar. Check out VH Audio or any of the other audio specialists for bulk cable.

I use Carol brand stranded copper with teflon insulation from the hardware store and build my own. Better connectors are more important than conductors, so you're on the right foot there. Geometry of the conductors within the cable is also a factor, but you have less control of that with bulk cable unless you modify 38 feet of it!
