Good response Duster as I concur with all you posted. I would only add that in my experience the connectors are of much greater importance than the length of cable or even the cable construction for that matter. (MHO)
This is in reference to power cables.
With respect to audio leads. Overly long leads can reduce high frequency response so I would suggest balanced cabling in excess of 15-20 feet.
With respect to loudspeaker cables. I can't imagine needing lengths in excess of ten feet for a stereo rig. Of course sending signals to loudspeakers in adjacent rooms and the use of switching loudspeaker selector boxes present their own issues. As I am not a fan of homes wired for sound in every room as it is like going from elevator to lobby to elevator etc. For stereo set up; the loudspeaker cables must be of identical length. No exceptions.
