What seems funny is the reason the new series is said to sound better,..

Yes, both the 4TC and 8TC I have is the earlier black and blue version- about 1989-90. I've heard from several sources that the new clear and gold or whatever they call it does have noticeable improvements. The odd thing is the explanation that there was actually a sonic penalty from the dyes used to produce the covering colour.

Kimber also is making the 12TC also, and it surprised me to hear the hierarchy of recommendations to use 1. doubled, spaced 4TCs rather than 2. single 8TC, and not highly promoted: 3. the 4TC + 8TC but also 4. that I'd be happier not combining the 4TC + 12TC. And, Kimber was quick to suggest the new version 4TC, 8TC, and 12TC are better in importants ways. -A pity in a way, I really like that saturated blue!
