Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Al, ya gotta lose the agenda..it doesn't fit you well

AL: ""You may have meant non-optimal with respect to inductance, but that is not what you wrote.""

You apparently took english as a second language...how many times do I have to repeat the same damn thing???

I was informed that I should take ESL when I first went to the univ..:-)

Al: ""Yes, I'm aware of the problems with field spillage, both for energy storage and susceptibility to interference. Most speaker cables available today are compromised in some way, usually related these things.""
All speaker cables basically, with a very few exceptions.

AL: ""An optimal cable would have equal DCR of center conductor and outer conductor. .""
That is a specific criteria only required for balancing of the current within a cross coax design. It is not required for any other type.
Al: ""I understood your post to imply you knew of such a commercially available (to the dedicated DIY hobbyist) cable, hence my request that you share the recipe""

No, all you wanted to do was bust my chops because of my statement that you seem to claim that everything in the whole world "resonates" with the exception of silly putty. You've had a bug up your britches ever since.

AL: ""Of course for a sum of money on the order of $20,000 plus the price of the finished goods, anyone can get such a cable built.""
20 grand?? Why so much??

It can be done for considerably less. But the question would remain, what L and what C, what dielectric? I can design and build any guage speaker cable, to any L, any C, any dielectric, within the constraints LC = 1034 DC. But what specific parameters will fit the bill?? In fact, I just detailed a triax construction over at DIY, along with measurements and calculations. It's a simple matter to switch the dielectric to one of your own choosing, build it, measure it, and try it in a system.. What was really interesting is that I've been able to dial in the measurement procedure to get very accurate L and R, even for a 4 foot length of the cable. Nifty stuff.

l: "" Criticizing Jon for not going into the wire business would be silly: his recipe uses a commercially available cable type that gets close to the ideal, but does not meet it. ""

What in the world are you talking about???

If I called him an idiot because he didn't understand something, that is criticizing.

If I called him stupid, that is also. Same with chowderhead, goofball, jerk, et al...

Saying that somebody does not understand the theory is not criticizing. In this case, it was an accurate statement of his lack of ability to derive the inductance of the system, as well as understanding the ramifications of the current imbalance. Simple.

It has nothing to do with criticizing someone..Don't attempt make it so. Again, why do you have this ridiculous agenda goin here??

Sheesh, you "anti-naysayers" have taken this knee jerk stance to a silly level..

No wonder high end audio is such a shambles..

Cheers, John
