Home Depot HD-14 vs Kimber 8TC

With no budget and a need for longer speaker cables, I decided to go on the cheap and picked up some HD-14 extension cable (80' for 50' price!) at Home Depot this weekend. It's orange & black made in China for Commercial Electric (there was a similar one made in phillipines). I cut it into 4 lengths of 5 meters and biwired the bare wire (I didn't use the 3rd green wire at all).

I swapped out my 2 meter 8TC shotguns and played a few records. The highs were unlistenable, so I let 'em run on white noise radio for a few hours. My initial impressions are that they are kinda "faster" then the 8TC, with more space around the instruments and good soundstaging. Lows were intially non-existent at first but became significantly punchy and deep after some burn-in - I actually set back the xover filter a notch on my REL. Quite impressive, considering they're more then double the length and cost less then one(!) banana termination on the 8TC.

But the highs are still 1 dimensional, harsh, metallic, and edgy afer 6 hours of white noise burn-in. At this point, the bad highs aspect make them a no-go, but has anyone kept these in their system for longer then a quick giggle? I'm wondering if they'll get any smoother..
