There are many value (and in this case, I mean inexpensive) driven cables with very good performance. I've spent the bigger dollars on cables and have come to realize that I can often get 85-90% of the same performance for 10-25% of the cost. Cables, like any component, has a line of diminishing returns. I now believe that $200 and above is expensive. I use cables that cost far less than that I much prefer. They're out there. At my age, I don't hear out to 20k Hz any more, so looking at cables with wide bandwidth claims of 100k are silly for me. I believe that there are many who are unwilling to admit that 16k is the top end and spend big bucks on cables with more "detail". For me, the midrange is my focus. Here's some names of cables that won't take a second mortgage to try:
MAS (my personal choice)
Signal
E-Cables
Bluejean
There are others that AA members can offer or a little research will unearth. Whether cables make difference to you or not is a personal choice, but I think that the quality of the cable materials and construction do make significant positive differences in some systems over stock cords. I respect the naysayer belief of "no difference".
