Avanti,I have a pair of Avanti III's driven by a Berning ZH270 tube amplifier. The Berning has a unique design that gives it terrific solid state-like bass while retaining the best of the tube sound for midrange and treble. In my system, I have extensiuvely listened to DIY T-1 cable, Mapleshade double helix, Cardas Golden Cross, Audio Magic Spellcaster, and Audio Magic Sorcerer. I finally settled on the Sorcerer, which seems to me to have the least colored, most natural sound of the ones I tried. I liked the Golden Cross very much, but it was a little too laid back - the sound stage sounded about a mile deep. Very smooth, though. The Spellcaster was really up front and in your face, which was fine as long as I played Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and the like (i.e. it was a great heavy metal/rock speaker cable, but to harsh for other kinds of music). The DIY was better than the Mapleshade, but lacked bass. I am quite happy with the Sorcerers - they seem to be a good match with my system, are very smooth and clean, with great bass. The Sorcerers are silver cable, but do not seem to have the tendency to be bright that I have heard other silver cables have.
Regards,
David
