True, the Proac's are "polite" in the highs (I own Deflex-modded 1s'), but I wouldn't call them recessed. This characteristic can be exacerbated with other gear that is also polite in the highs such as AZ cables (assuming AZ's are similiar to the Harm Tech Pro-9+ speaker cable and ProSilwayII IC's I use on the CD player). I have been able to overcome this with other tweaks such as NOS tubes and isolation accessories, power cords, etc., to MY satisfaction anyway, given the other wonderful qualities of Proac's I would not want to be without. However, after 9 years with the Proac's I AM looking for other speakers that retain or better those qualities and give me more dynamic range and ultimate loudness (my wife doesn't agree with this!) to boot.I previously used JPS Superconductor IC's (still do on the subwoofer)and they certainly are vivid, open and more forward than the Harm Tech's and Omega-Mikro's (pre to power) I now use, but I find them to be cooler, more Technicolor, less natural and NOT nearly as open and 3-D as the HT's and OM's. To each his own, system synergy, yaddayadda...
