Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

yes, those where my trade-offs too.

Maybe what we are dealing with here is a modest little gestalt shift. Yes, I too noticed a smaller soundstage, less air, and the bass to was not as , hmm, "mighty" hehe. But that could be, yeah, because the elements are being pulled back together. But listening to what *was* there (as opposed to the ear-candy that was missing) I really did find the pace, musical coherence, etc, really coming through strong. For example, Listening last night to the Eroica , I could really get into how the timpani were playing *along* with the double basses as well as all the string sections, mimicing their softness but then leaping out ahead when it came time for a couple thwacks ;)

I am fully willing to think that music reproduction is alas always about tradeoffs. I think I read in TAS that a speaker designer said that no speaker can get more than 20% of the musical "form" right. I dont know, that doesn't necessarily depress me. Means I've got lots of exploring to do! But ya, it requires gestalt shifts every time you move to different areas of the musical form.

I'm gonna keep experimenting with this problem too, and see how my impressions and senses develop regarding it.
