Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

RE: I've used the same solid core 26 gauge speaker wire in...

The point is that it's possible to be authoritative about electronics, as it's a math-based discipline.

But most here realize that sound quality issues are subjective - everyone has their opinion, and moreover, many things are system-dependent. Just because you find something on one system, doesn't mean squat. If you can reproduce that on a dozen systems then you might have a point.

I'd strongly disagree with you on some of your stated opinions. For instance, I'd say that some of the worst sounding wire you can get is silver plated (at least for audio signal use). And your assertions about wire thickness are not shared by a majority of people. I don't know exactly how much testing you have done, but if you could see, for example, the huge pile of test interconnects I have here, 50 or more pairs (and that's just from the last 9 months or so), or the wide range of wires I have bought for such purposes (or half-dozen DACs I use) then you might think there's more to this hobby than you realize.

If getting the very best sound were that simple, Sony would have already done it.

When it comes to opinions, different weight can and should be given to different opinions. Some people have access to many different components, many here have multiple systems. And listening itself is a skill that can be honed with lots of practice. In my experience, critical listening is a skill that can be learnt, but like most skills, it takes time and practice. Listen for 3 hours a day critically for a couple of years and you have made a start.

An analogy - who's opinion would you trust more about the food quality in a restaurant : a food critic who eats at a different place every night and has done for 20 years, or someone who is used to KFC, and occasionally goes to a better place?

Considering the rather amusing way you are going about 'tweaking' a pretty pedestrian DAC, it makes me wonder if you are more at the KFC end of the market.
