JCS,I agree with you that a generalization is a difficult task. My creation for generalization is a condition when a pattern (which exposed to thy generalization) could deliver a predictably stable result in random environment. I will not give you up the reasons why in your case the results of your “comparing†lead you to “victory over MIT†but I will give you a hint of you are interesting:
Photographers know that it is difficult to get a good quality shot in fog. In order to introduce the “fog perception†it is highly desirable to have a small (even insignificant) subject very close to camera (to set for a viewer a reference point for the lowest density). With this up-close back image the picture look like fog. Without it looks like the print was underdeveloped.
Why I bring this illustration to the “Valhalla among the AR†case? Who knows…
