As an autistic person and Social Psychologist ( and audiophole), I think the phenomenom you are discussing can be fruitfully understood within the context of what Anthropology terms the "Whorf-Sapir Hypothesis", or Temple Grandin describes as "abstractification". Important stuff about our method for constructing our experience of "reality". Well worth checking out.
