It's possible that you ran into 3 particular instances where difference was so profound. It's also highly possible that at the lower-cost end of spectrum, copper cables indeed grossly obscure fine details - but, I'm pretty sure, some would take an issue with certain qualities of cheap silver cables, too.
Of all cables I own (NBS, DCCA, FIM, Fusion), I frankly don't even know for sure what they are made from. What I do know (and what is important to me), is that I preferred these cables to great many others during extensive auditions.
