Thanks, Ken. Your post reminds me that I should have also offered a basic captive power cord re-termination project tip.Most captive power cords use a common color code for each wire. For North American cable products; the live wire is usually black, the neutral wire is usually white, and the ground wire is usually green.
If one understands that an AC outlet's three blade inlets are shaped per polarity, it's easy to know what wire goes into what termination slot for the project.
When an AC outlet's ground blade inlet is positioned below the live and neutral blade inlets (looks like two eyes and an "o" shaped mouth); the AC outlet's wider slot on the left is the neutral blade's inlet. Connect a captive power cord's white wire to an AC plug's blade that "plugs-into" an AC outlet's wider slot and you have the correct polarity. The green wire is obvious (connect it to an AC plug's ground blade).
Always post a question to the forum if confused. Safety first...
