Home Cable Asylum

Interconnects, speaker wire, power cords. Ask the Cable Guys.

Your comparisons seem unfair.

While I admire what you are doing, I have to say that my initial impressions of your comparisons are not fair to any of the cable companies.

#1. You are comparing cables that are not comparably priced.

You compare an $800 Jena Labs "Fugue" cable with a $1400 Pure Note when there is a cable called the Symphony at $1100 (still less expensive than the Pure Note) that is far superior. Not a very fair comparison.

#2. Are all of the speaker cables tri-wired, or just the Pure Note?

You mention your speaker setup, but neglect to mention whether or not all the cables are tri-wired, bi-wired or shotgun.

#3. Are all the cables broken in?

The Valhalla has a very long break-in time as well as some of the other cables you have mentioned. Did you take that into consideration? Tekunda has a "Cable Cooker" which he used prior to testing any of the cables. This makes his a much more valuable evaluation.

#4. How much time did you spend with each of the cables?

Some cables need a bit more time to "settle" into a system than others. The time spent with each cable and a more descriptive report would certainly be more valuable.

#5. SET's almost always sound better with silver cable due to the higher distortion. Most SET's do not have great extension in the highs and therefore need the "hashiness" that silver tends to add.

#6. Did you mix and match any of the cables, or did you use the full sets from each company?

Please answer these questions a bit better so we may better understand how you arrived at your conclusions.

Nice start!

BTW, Jena Labs does not make a $6,000 speaker cable. Her most expensive speaker cable is $3540.
