When I built mine. . .

I used adhesive heat shrink tubing over the RCA's (Eichmann Silver Bullets) extending about 2-3" down the body of the IC. I also torqued down on the barrel locking screw (before applying the heat shrink) so that it clamps onto the teflon tubing.

They are definitely delicate, but these measures may have helped reliability as I've had no breakages even though I used the 32awg silver wire called for in the original recipe.

I agree, these are amazing IC's.
