I find your review interesting, because the very things you do not like about CC89259 are the things they do better than my previous Cardas cables. Your comparison DIY star quad enameled litz cables sound interesting, but some comparisons to cables from known manufacturers would have helped me understand how you found the CC89259 to have "all the required high fidelity attributes: bass, midrange, treble," and yet "kill the music while leaving the sound intact."Maybe the difference is in our systems; tubes and horns vs. SS and cone drivers. My previous cables were very smooth, with a quiet background, and realistic tone, but left my system sounding dull, and somewhat rolled off, with less air around instruments and less sparkle in the high end. I have also used some silver plated copper cables (not DH Labs) that I found to exaggerate the upper mids and high frequencies, resulting in an artificially "tipped up" tonal balance. In my system, the CC89259, once broken in, have provided a nice balance of tone, detail and dynamics that suits the variety of music I listen to. However, I still plan to continue trying (and probably building) different cables, just for fun.
