I was playing around with my SEX amp (with iron upgrade) the other day and decided to change the 2uF caps. Did one channel, then listened. Didn't hear much difference so I did the other channel.
After a bit I decided to stick in some new tubes that I got the other day. Thought I heard a pop through the headphones as it powered up, and the left channel was dead.
Puzzled, I took it to the bench and did the resistance & voltage checks (with tubes that were known to be good).
From what I could determine from the readings and my limited knowledge of schematics, it looked like the 2uF cap (Sonicap) was shorted.
I replaced them with another set I had (Clarity cap) and I had both channels working again.
There was an intermittent "blip" when the channel would occasionally cut out for a second, so I changed out the .1uF Sonicap with the Clarity cap and all seems well after that.
So could this have been from the new tube or was it just a coincidence?
