Paramount output transformer taps - could someone explain?

I'll be trying some different speakers with my Paramount amps and am trying to understand what happens with the different transformer taps that I can use. I don't want to re-wire it every time I hook up a different speaker, so happens in the following situations?

The amp was wired for 8 ohms and you connect a 16 ohm speaker?

How about the opposite?

Amp wired for 16 ohms and you connect an 8 ohm speaker?
