Hey gang! I ordered my Paramounts!
This week I got some suitable speakers, the Klipsch Forte II, and have been using the SEX amp to power them until the amp kits arrive & get built. The SEX amp has the Iron upgrade, Clarity caps, Goldpoint attenuator, (but still waiting for C4S).
It is really surprising how good this amp sounds powering the Fortes. Things sound even a little better when I use my deHavilland pre-amp ahead of the SEX amp, with the volume on the SEX amp all the way up. (and I get remote control volume!)
Overall I like this set up quite a bit, and am wondering if the Paramounts will have the same type of "sound" as the SEX amp?
Reason I'm concerned is these Fortes are the most temperamental speakers I have ever owned.
My current amp is a Berning ZH-270 and it's been a wonderful amp with every speaker I have ever tried so far, but with the Klipsch, it was almost unlistenable!
Harsh, hollow, honking midrange, all the usual Klipsch derogatory terms were very apparent. I thought I'd made a horrible mistake buying these.
Once I connected the SEX amp that all changed... dramatically!
Swapping the AZ Hologram II speaker cables out for the Cardas SE-11 removed any remaining trace of honk, and smoothed things out. Sounded almost perfect, ended up staying up past midnight listening. Haven't done that in a long time.
Only complaint is they need more power. I can tell the SEX amp is right at the end of it's capacity, the bass is a little loose & fuzzy. I'm expecting the Paramounts to take care of this 1 issue, and am hoping the overall house sound will be the same.
Any opinions from those who own both?
