Until Brian shows up, here is the answer he gave me on a similar question regarding the resin:Question:
1. The output Xfmrs have a varnish type coating. After the bubbly was unwrapped from them, they have been giving off a very strong solvent odor. In addition to the odor, the varnish on one hasn't dried properly. I've left them sitting in the garage to see if the varnish will harden and the solvent will totally dissipate.
Is this typical for that transformer?Brian's answer:
The transformers are quite new and they have also been encased in their packaging so there is a smell that they give off - this will die down over the next few days with some air to them - The resin is an important part of the transformer mfg process and the resins slowly hardens over a few months.
