I agree wholly with your description of the sound of a good active stage. Even where gain is not an issue, and input and output impedance is not, in theory, an issue, I find that active stages have precisely the advantages you mentioned.I tend to think that passives are often favored where the quality of the active stage is compromised (price or poor choice) but not where a really good and compatible active stage is being compared.
