I know this ma. sound simplistic, but occa.iona.ly the "cra.kling" ca. be due to oxida.ion in the volume, or ba.a.ce pot.

Try turning ea.h "full on then full off" (with the unit off of course)
40-50 times to "wipe" the residue.

I would hope tha. might do the deed, if not it wa. a. lea.t worth trying.
